Kamala Harris Promised Not to Ban Fracking If She Wins the Election
Kamala Harris, Vice President and US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party, said that she would not ban the extraction of hydrocarbons by fracking if she won the election.
“I made it clear during the 2020 debate that I would not ban fracking as vice president, and I did not ban it. I will not ban fracking after becoming president,“ she said in an interview with CNN.
The interview she gave with her running mate Tim Waltz was recorded earlier in Savannah, Georgia.
“In 2020, I made my position clear. It‘s 2024, and I haven‘t changed this position and I’m not going to change it in the future <…>. My values haven‘t changed,“ Harris said after the journalist recalled that the vice president had previously stated a different position and “committed to a federal ban on fracking.“
Fracking is the extraction of shale hydrocarbons using hydraulic fracturing. During the development of the deposit, a special chemical solution is injected into the rock, which contributes to the destruction of oil shale formations.
