Kazakhstan Plans to Start Operating the Anabay Gas Field by the End of the Year

The Kazakh authorities intend to begin exploitation of the Anabay gas field in the Zhambyl region by the end of 2023. This was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev following his meeting with the Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz Sanzhar Zharkeshov.
“The head of state was reported on the work to expand the gas resource base. According to the chairman of the board of NC QazaqGaz JSC, the new Anabay gas field will be launched by the end of 2023. In addition, preparations have begun for the development of the Pridorozhnoye field,” the statement said.
During the meeting, the President got acquainted with the report on the implementation of the medium-term strategy of the gas industry and the increase in gas processing capacity, as well as the prospects for further gasification of the country. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the progress of the project of the second line of the Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent gas pipeline and the signing of a new export contract with the People’s Republic of China,” the press service explained.
As Zharkeshov reported, since the beginning of 2022, QazaqGaz has implemented investment projects worth 400 billion tenge (more than $861 million) in the Atyrau and Mangistau regions, as well as in Almaty. In addition, the company subsidized gas prices for households and businesses. “The head of state was informed about the solution to the problem of gas shortage. As Sanzhar Zharkeshov said, the measures taken will ensure a surplus of natural gas in Kazakhstan for the upcoming autumn-winter period,” the press service specified.
Following the meeting, the President of Kazakhstan gave several instructions aimed at stable provision of gas supplies to the domestic market, timely preparation for the heating season, introduction of the concept of careful gas consumption and further pricing reform.
