KazMunayGas Received Less Than 416 Thousand Tons of Oil due to Accidents at the MAEC
As noted by Diana Arysova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Company, “in recent years, there has been an increase in the number of emergency power outages at the fields of Kazmunaigas by MAEK”
Due to accidents at the Mangistau Nuclear Power Plant (MAEK), Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company KazMunayGas did not receive 416 thousand tons of oil from the volumes previously planned for this year. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC NC “KazMunayGas” Diana Arysova.
“In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of emergency power outages at the fields of Kazmunaigas by MAEC, which negatively affects the production of oil companies: Ozenmunaigas, Mangistaumunaigas, Embamunaigas and Karazhanbasmunai. According to preliminary estimates, from the beginning this year, until mid-August, the volume of lost oil amounted to 416 thousand tons, which implies about 99 billion tenge (more than $ 218 million – TASS note) in the form of lost gross income of these companies from the export sales of oil and, accordingly, shortfalls in the budget in the form of taxes “, – Arysova said during a speech at the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange.
Earlier, Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev said that his department could reduce the forecast for oil production for the year due to the accident at the MAEC and repairs at the fields from the previously planned 90.5 million tons of oil to 89.4 million tons.
On August 11, there was a shutdown of two turbine units at CHPP-2 of MAEK, which led to subsequent shutdowns of consumers in the Atyrau and Mangistau power centers. Then block No. 3 at the MAEK thermal power plant was turned off, and electricity consumption was limited for industrial facilities. The authorities of the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan have introduced rolling blackouts for consumers in a number of settlements.
On July 3, due to an emergency shutdown of power unit No. 1 at the MAEK thermal power plant, restrictions were introduced on the supply of electricity to industrial enterprises and a number of settlements. The press service of the Kazmunaigas company informed that on July 3, due to problems with power supply, oil production was suspended at several fields in the Mangistau and Atyrau regions.
