Level of Rational Use of Associated Petroleum Gas in Samotlorneftegaz Exceeded 98.5%
Rosneft is actively working to increase the level of useful utilization of associated petroleum gas (APG) in the Nizhnevartovsk region. Samotlorneftegaz, which is part of the production complex of NK Rosneft, by the end of 2020 increased the level of rational use of APG to 98.6%. The bulk of the produced gas – about 6 billion cubic meters – was directed to the gas transmission system, another 47 million cubic meters were supplied to local consumers.
The production infrastructure operating at the Samotlor field allowed establishing one of the highest APG utilization rates in the industry. It includes 23 vacuum compressor stations, 5 additional separation units and 3 line separator-driers. The total length of the gas transmission system is about 530 km.
To further minimize the impact on the environment, the modernization of gas processing facilities will continue in 2021. At present, Samotlor is undergoing technical re-equipment of the additional separation unit and reconstruction of a 1.3 km long low-pressure gas pipeline.
Rosneft is systematically working to increase the level of APG utilization within the framework of the Investment Gas Program. Its main task is to increase the useful use of APG to a level of at least 95%. This goal is achieved thanks to an integrated approach to field development: creating infrastructure, supplying gas to consumers or re-injecting gas into the reservoir.
Last year, within the framework of the Comprehensive Program to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Rosneft successfully tested the latest equipment for detecting methane leaks at Samotlor. Testing has confirmed the high efficiency of the combined use of modern technical means. The tested equipment: laser and thermal imaging devices for scanning, ultrasonic detectors, unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with gas analyzers will be used at the Samotlor field on a permanent basis.
The development of the Company’s gas business is in line with the global trend of using gas as a cleaner fuel. Implementation of measures to increase the rational use of APG reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and also improves the environmental situation in the regions of production.
