  • Libya Overtook Nigeria and Became the First Country in Africa in Terms of Oil Production

For the first time in 10 years, Libya overtook Nigeria and became the first country in Africa in terms of oil production. This was reported by the economic agency Ecofin.

“In the current conditions, for the first time in the last 10 years, Nigeria is having difficulty maintaining a stable level of oil production; it is being overtaken by yesterday’s pursuers – Angola and Libya,” the agency notes. “At the end of March, Libya finally became the first in oil production in Africa – 1.24 million barrels per day, which is 5.7% higher than the February level. Nigeria’s indicators are 1.23 million barrels per day in March versus 1.32 million barrels per day in February.”

Libyan authorities have been steadily increasing production in recent months, while Nigeria has been plagued by dilapidated infrastructure and vandalism.
