  • Modern Reagents Ensured a Record Increase in Oil Recovery at the Gazprom Neft Field in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

Gazprom Neft successfully tested surfactants at the Sutorminskoye field in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. New reagents, developed by the company together with a foreign partner and one of the leading domestic petrochemical producers, made it possible to increase oil recovery from 18 to 21%, respectively.

The reagent, created in partnership with a Chinese company, increased oil recovery by 18%. As a result of the experiment, the overall oil recovery factor (ORF) at the Sutorminskoye field reached 60%, with the industry average being 35%. Testing also confirmed the prospects for replicating the mixture at other assets in Western Siberia.

Surfactants developed jointly with a Russian partner made it possible to increase oil recovery factor by 21%. Previously, the reagents were also successfully tested at the Gazprom Neft Kholmogory field in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Tests have proven the versatility of the mixture, which is equally effective in different areas with similar geological and physical characteristics.

Modern methods of enhanced oil recovery are one of the main tools for maintaining and increasing production in mature fields, as well as developing “difficult” oil. Full-scale application of the technology will allow the development of additional reserves at the Sutorminskoye field. The introduction of surfactant-polymer flooding at all Gazprom Neft assets will provide the company with additional production of 225 million tons of oil.

“Gazprom Neft is one of the Russian leaders in the development and implementation of enhanced oil recovery technologies. Thanks to intensive work in this direction, we have reached a high level of technology maturity and are ready to replicate it. As part of the federal project “Technologies for the Development of Hard-to-Recover Hydrocarbons,” we, together with representatives of executive authorities, are developing measures for economic incentives for the implementation of chemical recovery methods – this is the final step before the large-scale implementation of the technology in Russia,” – Alexey Vashkevich – Director for Technological Development at Gazprom Neft.
