  • Moldova Returned to Its Control Gas and Oil Fields in the South of the Country

We are talking about fields near the village of Viktorovka, Kantemir region, and oil fields near the village of Valen, Kagul region.

The government of Moldova has returned to its control small gas and oil fields in the south of the country after the expiration of licenses for their development. As the press service of the State Property Agency reported, these objects were transferred under the management of the state company “Moldavian Hydrogeological Expedition”. We are talking about fields near the village of Viktorovka, Kantemir region, and oil fields near the village of Valen, Kagul region.

In 1995, a license to exploit the natural gas field in Viktorovka was issued to the American company Redeco, and then, in 2007, it was transferred to the Moldovan company Valiexchimp. Later, the government of Moldova announced a “mismanagement and ineffective approach to the management of national resources” by these companies.

Gas and oil are produced in very small volumes in Moldova. According to experts, heavy grades of oil suitable for the production of diesel, fuel oil and bitumen are produced in the village of Valeni. Gas deposits were also discovered in the village of Beresht, but gas ran out there a year after the start of production.
