New Deepwater Oil Project on the US Shelf
BP has made a final investment decision on the Kaskida project in the Gulf of Mexico.
The field will become the international oil company’s sixth production hub in the region. A new floating platform with a capacity of 80,000 barrels per day will be installed here. During the first stage of development, production will be carried out from six wells. The field is scheduled to be launched into commercial operation in 2029.
Kaskida was discovered in 2006 at a water depth of 1.79 km by drilling from the Deepwater Horizon rig, which became legendary due to the accident that followed in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. The field contains reserves estimated at 275 million barrels of oil equivalent. According to the company, the development of Kaskida opens up opportunities for further development of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent of hydrocarbon resources concentrated in the region.
