New Gas Consortium Launches Production of Non-Associated Gas at Offshore Quiluma Field in Angola

New Gas Consortium (NGC) has commenced gas production at the offshore Quiluma field in Angola.
This was reported by the press service of the French company TotalEnergies.

This is the first development of a free (non-associated) gas field in the country. Historically, gas in Angola has been produced mainly as a by-product of oil production — so-called associated petroleum gas. The expected production volume on the shelf is approximately 330 million cubic feet per day, which is equivalent to about 2 million tonnes per year of liquefied natural gas.

The produced gas will be processed and then supplied to the Angola LNG plant for further export to both European and Asian markets. The field is being developed by the NGC consortium, operated by Azule Energy (a joint venture of bpand Eni) with a 37.4% stake. TotalEnergies holds 11.8%, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company31%, and Sonangol E&P19.8%.

The NGC project also includes the development of the Maboqueiro field. Like Quiluma, the asset will be developed using a dedicated shallow-water offshore platform. The final investment decision was made in July 2022. In October 2025, Azule Energy drilled the first well as part of the NGC project.

In November 2025, a gas processing plant was commissioned in northern Angola as part of the NGC non-associated gas project. The facility has a processing capacity of approximately 400 million cubic feet of gas per day and 20 thousand barrels of gas condensate. The construction cost is estimated at 4 billion US dollars.
