New Points of Attraction: Gazprom Neft Will Help Transform Regional Museums
Eight museums from four regions of Russia will have the opportunity to improve the quality of their cultural projects through an acceleration program launched by Gazprom Neft in 2023. A free online platform will help prepare and implement new initiatives that are attractive to local residents and tourists.
Following the selection of projects, the acceleration program in 2023 included museums and exhibition spaces from the Orenburg and Tyumen regions, the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs. Their teams, together with curators, study trends and modern technologies necessary to implement their initiatives.
The acceleration platform is part of the Native Museums project, which aims to transform regional museums into local points of attraction. The accelerator operates in four main areas: exhibition and excursion activities, the urban environment and the organization of festivals, the creation of digital products and the development of social infrastructure.
Cultural institutions included in the program will receive significant expert and financial resources to implement their projects. Participants have access to specialized educational materials and events. Conditions for networking and exchange of experience have been created. You can get advice from experts and mentors, as well as attract financial support for projects developed in the accelerator.
Thus, the Museum of History and Archeology in Nadym will create new interactive expositions so that visitors can feel like a part of history. The Purovsky Regional Local History Museum will prepare for the Khanymei Ethnopark various scenarios for getting to know the culture of the Khanty people, for example, through cuisine, life, and traditions. The Noyabrsk Resource Center plans to install unusual payphones in warm public transport stops – with their help it will be possible to “call” into the past and hear entertaining stories about the history of the city.
In Orenburg, there will be an exposition for families with children, where there will be no stands behind glass and exhibits will be allowed to be taken in hand, and inclusive audio guides for the flagship part of the museum’s collection – the exposition “Gold of the Sarmatians”.
The Native Museums project accelerator was launched with the support of the Native Towns social investment program of Gazprom Neft.
“The cultural accelerator arose for a reason, it was a reaction to the rapid growth of creative local teams in the regions. The high motivation of talented initiative people to create new points of attraction in their cities completely echoes the values and goals of the Native Towns. We understand that joint work with creative teams will create exactly the creative product that the region needs here and now: from city festivals to chamber photo exhibitions. And the key result for us is not the number and scale of the project, but the self-realization of residents, because this is the surest and fastest way to transform the cultural image of the regions .” – Yarina Sugakova – Director of the Native Towns social investment program of Gazprom Neft
“The museum community has a high need for a deeper study of cultural projects, as it becomes increasingly difficult for classical museums to compete with other leisure formats for the attention of the audience. Participation in the Native Museums accelerator gives our project teams the opportunity to qualitatively work on existing ones, as well as generate new ones. ideas for social and cultural projects that best meet the needs of potential visitors of different ages and current trends in the cultural events industry. Here you can go through the entire cycle of the project, work out all the stages in practice and gain valuable experience that the team will need to launch the next initiatives.” – Yulia Grigoryeva – Head of the Children’s Center of the Museum of Moscow, expert in the development and launch of museum projects, teacher of the acceleration program of the project “Native Museums”
