Oil and Gas Industry Shows Commitment to Responsibility, Cooperation and Sustainability at WPC Leadership Conference
The World Petroleum Council hosts its first WPC Leadership Conference on Responsibility, Cooperation and Sustainability in Tromsø, Norway next week from 26-28 May 2015. Held in Norway’s Arctic Circle, the CEOs of some of Norway’s leading organisations involved in the oil and gas sector have provide their support for this crucial topic and have issued a joint letter of support for the initiative.
Eldar Sætre, Statoil’s President and CEO, Henrik O. Madsen, DNV GL’s Group President and CEO, Stein Lier-Hansen, CEO of Norsk Industri, and Sturla Henriksen, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association express their commitment to “discuss and demonstrate best available technology and practices in order to minimise impacts and risks to the people and environments where we operate around the world. By highlighting the industry’s strategies in places such as the Arctic and other frontier areas, we can contribute to raising standards across the sector. We are convinced of the necessity and value of hosting such an event. As an industry, it will bring us closer to our goal of providing sustainable energy solutions for our future.”
Dr. József Tóth, President of the World Petroleum Council, welcomes their support and says, “Given the complexity and challenges that the petroleum business will face in delivering energy for sustainable development of the world, responsible culture needs to be incorporated at all levels, from the small communities where we operate and throughout our global business. Stable long term relationships and cooperation with all stakeholders enables our industry to provide sustainable energy for all. The WPC Leadership Conference is a platform for stakeholders to set the stage for the future and to achieve sustainability by taking responsibility and working in close cooperation with others.”
With over 300 participants attending from more than 40 countries, Remi Eriksen, Group Executive Vice President and COO of DNV GL, and Chair of the Conference Steering Committee, comments on the programme, “The Conference Programme we have developed provides a strong platform to demonstrate the oil and gas industry’s commitment to a responsible and sustainable energy future”. He adds “We are delighted to be working closely with the World Petroleum Council to deliver the WPC Leadership Conference on “Responsibility, Cooperation and Sustainability”, and to learn together from experts across the world who will share their insights on how to tackle challenges and to capture opportunities.”
