  • Oil Production Begins on the Senegal Shelf

Australian Woodside Energy has begun oil production at Senegal’s first offshore project, the Sangomara field.

The Sangomara field is located 100 km south of the country’s capital, Dakar, and the project cost is $5.2 billion.

The planned production is still at the level of 100 thousand b/d; production will use a floating complex for storing and loading raw materials.

Over the past 10 years, several promising hydrocarbon deposits have been discovered in the coastal waters of Senegal. Their total reserves amount to 1 billion barrels of oil and 40 trillion cubic feet (1,132 billion cubic meters) of gas.

Let us recall that in April the country’s new president even announced an audit of Senegal’s hydrocarbon reserves, assuring investors that all their rights would be respected.
