  • Orenburgneft Doubled the Initial Well Production Rate Thanks to Fishbone Technology

The Orenburgneft company, which is part of the production asset of Rosneft Oil Company, has doubled the starting flow rate of a multilateral well at the North Kommunarskoye field. High performance has been achieved through the use of modern fishbone technology. The initial production rate of the well was 150 tons per day, which is twice the average production rate of wells built using the traditional method.

The development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 Strategy. The company gives priority to innovation and the use of breakthrough scientific approaches, identifying technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.

“Fishbone” is a multilateral well with a special trajectory, in which numerous branches extend from one horizontal wellbore. The shape of the well resembles a fish skeleton, which determined the name of the technology.

The new well has a main horizontal trunk length of 631 meters, the total length of four branches is more than 1.5 km. This design made it possible to increase the coverage of oil-saturated areas of the productive formation with a complex geological structure, as well as to optimize the drilling process.

The development program provides for further drilling of multilateral wells using fishbone technology at Orenburgneft fields, taking into account the positive experience gained.
