Orlen Acquired a Share in the Atlantis Gas Field in the North Sea
The Polish energy concern Orlen through its daughter PGNIG Upstream Norway acquired a twenty percent share in the Atlantis gas field in the North Sea, the company reports.
“We have acquired a twenty percent share in the Atlantis field, one of the largest, opened in recent years on the Norwegian shelf,” the report said.
It is noted that Atlantis is a field above average economic efficiency and the Polish side will be able to receive about 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year from it.
“This investment is the key element of the Orlen strategy aimed at ensuring stable supply of natural gas to Poland. The extracted raw materials will be sent to Poland by the Baltic Pip gas pipeline,” the report said.
It is noted that the transaction has not yet been approved by the Norway Ministry of Energy, however, after its completion, the PGNIG Upstream Norway will become the second shareholder of the Atlantis field along with Equinor, which is the operator of the field.
