Production Restored at Tengiz Field After Suspension in January
Oil production has been restored at the Tengiz field, which had been suspended in January due to power supply issues, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov said.
“Tengiz has restored production,” Akkenzhenov told journalists on the sidelines of parliament on Wednesday.
He added that production at the field is currently at 120 thousand tonnes per day.
Earlier, Interfax-Kazakhstan was told by Tengizchevroil (TCO) that production at the field has not yet reached full capacity.
Oil production at the Tengiz field began to resume on January 31. Prior to that, on January 18, a transformer fire occurred at the field. The fire was promptly extinguished, and no one was injured.
On January 19, Tengizchevroil temporarily suspended oil production at the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields due to problems with power distribution systems.
On January 26, the operator resumed production at the Korolevskoye field. On January 28, according to Erlan Akkenzhenov, production at Korolevskoye reached full capacity.
Oil reserves at Tengiz amount to 3.1 billion tonnes. The participants of Tengizchevroil LLP are Chevron Corp. (50%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Ventures Inc. (25%), Kazakhstan through KazMunayGas (20%), and LUKOIL (5%).
