  • RN-Uvatneftegaz Increased the Production Rate of a Horizontal Well by 40% Thanks to Fishbone Technology

RN-Uvatneftegaz (part of the oil production complex of Rosneft Oil Company) built the first multilateral well at the Uvat project using fishbone technology. The well has five horizontal lateral branches and was built without hydraulic fracturing (fracturing). The initial production rate of the well was 163 tons of oil per day, which is 2.4 times higher than the average production rate of horizontal wells without hydraulic fracturing launched at the company’s fields in 2023.

The development of technological potential is one of the key elements of Rosneft’s strategy. The company gives priority to innovation and the use of breakthrough scientific approaches, identifying technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.

The fishbone well in the Taltsiyskaya area of the Protozanovskoye field was drilled in 65 days. The commercial drilling rate was 2899 meters per rig per month. With a length of the main trunk of 5.5 thousand meters, the excavation of five side horizontal branches amounted to about 2.3 thousand meters. The company plans to continue constructing wells using this technology to increase the drainage area of productive formations and increase well production rates.

Currently, the construction of new wells at RN-Uvatneftegaz is carried out mainly in the Malyk and Central Uvat fields.
