  • RN-Yuganskneftegaz Increased the Flow Rate of a Horizontal Well by 2.5 Times Thanks to the Fishbone Technology

RN-Yuganskneftegaz, the largest production company of Rosneft Oil Company, increased the flow rate of a horizontal well by 2.5 times. High performance achieved through the use of modern fishbone technology. The company drilled a well with four horizontal laterals without multi-stage hydraulic fracturing at the Sorovskoye field. The initial production rate was 155 tons of oil per day, which is 2.5 times higher than horizontal wells in nearby fields.

The development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 Strategy. The company prioritizes innovation and the use of breakthrough scientific approaches, identifying technological leadership as a key factor in competitiveness in the oil market.

“Fishbone” is a multilateral well with a special trajectory, in which numerous branches depart from one horizontal wellbore. The well in its shape resembles a fish skeleton, which determined the name of the technology.

A well at the Sorovskoye field was drilled in a short time – in 35 days. The commercial speed was 5325 meters per machine per month. With a length of the main shaft of 4.5 thousand meters, the penetration of four side horizontal branches is about 2.5 thousand meters. Well drilling using the fishbone technology has been carried out at the enterprise since 2019, which allows increasing the drainage area of productive formations.
