Robert Shakurovich Mufazalov: With Blessed Memories of a True Teacher and an Outstanding Inventor
On October 23rd, 2020, at the age of 80, our colleague – an extraordinary person, candidate of technical sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Robert Shakurovich Mufazalov, sadly passed away.
His whole life is a vivid example of selfless service to the Motherland, loyalty to his professional ideals and his chosen business related to the oil and gas industry. Robert Mufazalov devoted his entire life to his work in an oil trust, scientific and pedagogical activities at the Ufa Oil University, as well as being a first class researcher and innovator of oil reservoirs in Russia and abroad. More than 200 scientific papers, 10 monographs, 4 textbooks for universities and more than seven dozen inventions have been produced as the result of this colossal and significant work.
The name of Robert Mufazalov is forever inscribed in the annals of the world theory and practice of oil production, as the creator of the fundamental theory of underground hydrodynamics. This long-term work has made it possible to successfully solve one of the key tasks of any oil and gas industry – to significantly increase oil recovery from reservoirs, especially with high-viscosity and hard-to-recover reserves.
Robert Mufazalov’s truly invaluable and in demand knowledge were devoted not only to underground hydrodynamics and hydraulics, but also to quantum geomechanics, nonlinear hydroacoustics, engineering of drilling and oil production technologies. The discoveries made by him went far beyond oil production and found their practical application in other areas, in particular within medicines. His works devoted to energy-saving technologies that ensured environmental safety in solving problems in the petrochemical industry also found their worthy place in his body of work.
The many years of dedicated work Robert Mufazalov was awarded the titles of Inventor of the USSR, Honored Inventor of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Excellent Worker of the Oil Industry of the USSR, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, as well as a number of government and departmental awards, including medals ‘For the Development of the Russian Oil and Gas Industry’ and ‘100 Years of Formation of the Republic of Bashkortostan’.
All his life Robert Mufazalov was an honest, sensitive and open person. He has always been distinguished by an active life position, high professionalism, genuine intelligence, cheerfulness and optimism. The bright memory of Robert Shakurovich Mufazalov, a brilliant scientist, a caring father, an attentive husband and loving grandfather, a reliable companion, just a kind and sympathetic man who will forever remain in the memory of relatives, friends and colleagues.
