  • Rosneft Automates Laboratory Tests

Specialists from the Rosneft Scientific Institute in Tyumen have improved the RN-Lab corporate information system, developed to automate laboratory studies of core and formation fluids. Thanks to new functions, RN-Lab describes sedimentary rocks and recognizes various objects in photographs, for example, fossil remains of living organisms. The research results are stored by the information system for subsequent training of the computer to automatically describe the core.

The development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The company gives priority to innovation and the use of breakthrough technological approaches, identifying technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.

The RN-Lab information system is a digital twin of the laboratory, which, by automating routine operations, reduces labor costs and increases the efficiency of laboratory research by 3-5%. Its software modules contain complete information about the processes of studying core and formation fluids. To date, 8 modules have been developed: “Research Management”, “Planning”, “Quality Management”, “Core”, “Fluids”, “Equipment”, “Full-Size Core” and “Lithology”. The introduction of RN-Lab significantly reduced labor costs for laboratory research, for example, when studying a full-size core, this figure reached 25%.
