  • Rosneft Begins Pilot Hydrocarbon Production at Two Fields in the Vostok Oil Project

In January–March 2025, Rosneft began pilot hydrocarbon production at the Payakhskoye and Ichemmenskoye fields of the Vostok Oil project, the company announced.

“Rosneft continues pilot industrial development at the Payakhskoye, Ichemmenskoye, and Baikalovskoye fields: in Q1 2025, development drilling exceeded 30,000 meters, and four development wells were completed. Pilot production has started at Payakhskoye and Ichemmenskoye, with oil trucked from the sites,” the company reported.

Rosneft also added that construction of two cargo berths and a port fleet berth at the Port Bukhta Sever terminal is in an advanced state of readiness. Construction of the first oil loading berth continues, and preparatory work for the construction of the second berth is underway.

The company also noted that construction of the oil receiving and delivery point at Port Bukhta Sever and the Suzun oil pumping station is ongoing. Work continues on logistics infrastructure, the construction of hydraulic engineering facilities, shore protection, and the expansion of coastal and berth infrastructure.

Construction of the Vankor–Payakha–Bukhta Sever main oil pipeline is also progressing. “As of the end of Q1 2025, 104,000 piles had been installed, and about 450 kilometers of pipeline had been laid to project elevations, including a 171-kilometer dual-pipe section. Most of the work on laying the reserve pipeline crossing of the Yenisei River has been completed,” Rosneft reported.

    About the Project

Vostok Oil is Rosneft’s flagship project, located in Taimyr, and includes 52 license blocks in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, encompassing 13 oil and gas fields, including both existing Vankor cluster fields and new fields.

It was previously reported that the resource base of the Vostok Oil project exceeds 6.5 billion tonnes of low-sulfur oil (now reassessed at 7 billion tonnes). By 2033, the project aims to supply 115 million tonnes of oil. The oil will be transported via a 770-kilometer pipeline to the Port Bukhta Sever terminal, and then shipped through the Northern Sea Route.

Investments in the project’s implementation are estimated at 11.8 trillion rubles over the development period.
