Rosneft: Discovers Third Unique Field in the Kara Sea
Rosneft has discovered a new Arctic gas field with total reserves of 514 bcm of gas and 53 million tons. condensate as a result of prospecting and appraisal drilling at the Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky-2 license area in the Kara Sea. In accordance with the decision of the State Commission, the deposit is registered with the state. According to the current classification of reserves, it is classified as unique. The field, discovered in the year of celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory, was named after the great commander Marshal Rokossovsky.
Earlier, while drilling at the Vikulovskaya structure (Vostochno-Prinovozemelsky-1 license area), the Company discovered a unique Marshal Zhukov field with gas reserves of 800 billion m3. The drilling was carried out within the framework of Rosneft’s comprehensive program to develop the oil and gas potential of this region.
The project was launched in 2014 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Drilling of the first well “Universitetskaya-1” resulted in the discovery of one of the world’s largest oil and gas fields “Pobeda”. Its total recoverable reserves are about 130 million tons of oil and 422 billion cubic meters of gas.
The comprehensive drilling program implemented by Rosneft in the Kara Sea confirmed the high oil and gas content of the studied structures and made it possible to form a new oil and gas cluster in this area, including three discovered fields with a total volume of estimated reserves of more than 1.7 trillion m3 of gas and about 200 million tons of oil and condensate.
In total, the Company discovered more than 30 promising structures in three Vostochno-Prinovozemelskiy areas of the Kara Sea. Rosneft plans to conduct prospecting and appraisal drilling in these areas, continuing to develop the oil and gas potential of the Kara Sea.
