  • Rosneft has Invested More than 200 Billion Rubles in APG Utilization Projects Over 10 years

    In the period from 2013 to 2022, Rosneft Oil Company PJSC invested about 204 billion rubles in projects to involve associated petroleum gas (APG) in the beneficial use. The results of the Company’s large-scale Investment Gas Program and a set of measures in the field of low-carbon development are presented in the updated Public Position – “Rosneft: Contribution to the Implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals”.

    Confirming its status as a leader in the field of sustainable development among Russian oil and gas companies, Rosneft is implementing a whole range of measures aimed at introducing innovative technologies, increasing the level of industrial safety, social well-being of the regions and caring for the environment. The Company annually reports on its progress in achieving the relevant UN goals and contribution to the implementation of national projects in Russia.

    Rosneft has achieved outstanding results in the field of carbon management. In 2022, as part of the implementation of the Company’s Investment Gas Program to improve the rational use of associated petroleum gas, 17 new facilities were launched, including facilities for gas injection into the reservoir, power generation, gas treatment and use, as well as gas transportation infrastructure. The program is implemented in all regions of the Company’s presence and promotes the widespread introduction of innovative, energy-saving, “green” technologies in production processes.

    Rosneft has also made significant progress in combating greenhouse gas emissions. In 2022, the Company continued to apply the technology for detecting methane emissions using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground monitoring equipment. As part of the program, 341 properties were surveyed in 24 producing Companies of the Group using UAVs and 525 sites using ground-based monitoring tools. As a result, a set of measures was developed to effectively eliminate the detected sources of methane emissions.

    Consistent and systematic work to implement the Rosneft 2030: Reliable Energy and Global Energy Transition strategy also led to a natural improvement in key environmental indicators in 2022 compared to the previous year. In 2022, the Company reduced the absolute volume of greenhouse gas emissions by 11% compared to the base year 2020.

    In 2022, Rosneft also expanded the production and retail sales of high-tech fuels with improved environmental performance Euro-6 and Pulsar. Euro-6 gasoline is already available at 773 filling stations in 12 regions of Russia: the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Adygea, Nizhny Novgorod, Smolensk, Tula, Kaluga, Ryazan, Vladimir, Chelyabinsk, Moscow regions and in Moscow. Pulsar branded gasoline is sold at 1,233 filling stations of the Rosneft retail network in 31 regions of the country. The company also intends to increase the production of environmentally friendly marine fuel RMLS 40.

    Rosneft’s activities in the field of sustainable development involve not just minimizing the impact on the environment and improving the environmental friendliness of business, but achieving a total positive impact on ecosystems. The Company assumes additional obligations to increase the natural wealth of Russia, restore and reproduce its land, water, forest and biological resources. In 2022, Rosneft reclaimed more than 470 hectares of land, more than 90% of which was reclaimed by its own ecoservice. Also, in the regions of the Company’s presence, as part of the activities for the reproduction of aquatic biological resources, more than 55 million juveniles of valuable and commercial fish were released. And over the past three years, the Group companies have planted over 18 million seedlings and young trees. Total green investments of the Company for the period 2020-2022 reached about 156 billion rubles.

    2022 marks the 10th anniversary of Rosneft’s comprehensive scientific research in the Russian Arctic. The company is implementing the largest program since Soviet times for comprehensive study and environmental monitoring of the Arctic region – more than 40 expeditions have already been carried out, new projects are regularly launched. walrus and white gull. Leading profile institutes and research centers of the country participate in Rosneft’s environmental initiatives. Thus, the Company makes a significant contribution to the development of fundamental science and promising applied disciplines, contributes to the replenishment of scientific databases and the preparation of reliable climate forecasts.

    The updated Public Position also discloses information about the Company’s activities in the field of industrial safety, the implementation of corporate and social programs that ensure the development of human resources and make a significant contribution to the implementation of national projects in the Russian Federation.
