  • Rosneft Has Opened the Center for the Study of Carbonate Deposits of Hydrocarbons

Rosneft oil company, on the basis of its own research and design unit, created a Competence Center for the study of carbonate hydrocarbon deposits. The professional community unites more than 300 specialists from 22 mining enterprises and 9 corporate scientific institutes.

The tasks of the expert center include the development of innovative methods for determining the characteristics of carbonate reservoirs based on seismic facies, petrophysical and geological-hydrodynamic modeling.

The introduction of advanced approaches and new technologies is one of the key areas of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The company pays special attention to innovative development, identifying technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.

Rosneft produces hydrocarbons from carbonate formations at key assets in Eastern Siberia and the Volga-Ural oil and gas province. The relevance of in-depth geological study and the creation of advanced techniques is due to the significant production potential of such deposits. Recoverable oil reserves in carbonate reservoirs are estimated at 2.8 billion tons, representing 21% of the Company’s reserves.

The new Competence Center will facilitate the rapid exchange of knowledge, which, along with the use of the latest technologies for research and development of deposits, will lead to a further increase in production volumes in fields with carbonate reservoirs.
