Rosneft Improves the Accuracy of Oil Production Forecasts
Specialists from the Rosneft Scientific Institute in Ufa have improved the search for promising areas of oil-bearing rocks in Western Siberia. The new approach makes it possible to identify the most priority areas for drilling in difficult geological conditions typical of the Bazhenov formation*.
The specialists analyzed an expanded set of geological and petrophysical parameters and well test results at 20 fields of RN–Yuganskneftegaz (the Company‘s key producing asset). The use of the new technique made it possible to calculate the actual oil flow rate with a probability of more than 75%. Previously known methods did not allow us to make a forecast with such high accuracy.
Based on the improved methodology, a perspective map was built using the PH–GEOSIM corporate software package. This allowed us to evaluate the best zones of the Bazhenov formation in terms of oil production. The technique has already been confirmed by tests. In an area previously considered unpromising, an oil flow rate of more than 20 tons/day was obtained from an inclined–directional well.
*The Bazhenov formation is an oil-bearing rock spread over the entire territory of Western Siberia with an area of about 1 million square meters. m with significant oil resources.
