Rosneft Improves the Efficiency of the Geosteering Process
Specialists from the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Combustible Fossils (part of the research and development complex of Rosneft) have developed a method for automated processing of data obtained during drilling. The new approach allows several times to reduce labor costs for routine operations without compromising the quality of the result. The technique is based on modern data analysis technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence.
Data interpretation in geosteering is a science-intensive task that requires advanced developments in the field of mathematical modeling. The intelligent assistant system processes the data received by the drilling rig and, based on the processing results, issues recommendations to the engineer in real time and allows you to select the optimal well drilling trajectory.
The innovative technique has proved its effectiveness at a number of the Company’s fields; according to the test results, the speed of decision-making was significantly increased when drilling complex horizontal wells.
In 2023, the technology will be integrated into corporate real-time geosteering software RN-Horizon+.
