Rosneft: Patented the Technology for Researching Unconventional Oil Reservoirs
Specialists of the Tyumen Oil Research Center (Rosneft Research and Design Institute) have invented and patented a technology for determining the volumes of oil and gas in unconventional oil reservoirs using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The new approach is applied to assess the potential of hydrocarbons in the cavities of rocks containing bitumen, heavy, viscous, paraffinic, resinous hydrocarbons, as well as highly mineralized formation water.
The study of core samples from unconventional reservoirs on an NMR relaxometer * does not lead to their destruction, the properties of rocks are analyzed under conditions as close as possible to reservoir ones. This approach significantly increases the accuracy of determining the geological reserves of hydrocarbons.
The method of NMR studies has proven its effectiveness in the study of Turonian deposits, Bazhenov and Berezovskaya formations. The results were used to interpret well logging data, calculate reserves and build reservoir models at the Samaraneftegaz fields in the Orenburg region, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha and Verkhnechonskneftegaz in Eastern Siberia (the Company’s production assets).
