  • Rosneft Starts Engineering and Geophysical Research in the Eastern Arctic

A research expedition has started in the Eastern Arctic, organized by specialists of the Arctic Research Center LLC (part of the Rosneft Corporate Research and Development Complex). The multipurpose vessel “Capitan Voronin” within the framework of the expedition will perform engineering and geophysical work in the waters of the seas of the North Seas (Kara, Laptev, East Siberian).

The main task of the project is to prepare for drilling stratigraphic wells in the Eastern Arctic. This is necessary for core sampling and determination of the age (stratification), composition and formation conditions of sedimentary cover rocks of the studied shelf areas for understanding the geological structure and assessing the oil and gas potential of the region.

Earlier, at the end of September, an expedition by NK Rosneft was launched to drill stratigraphic wells in the Kara Sea. Drilling work is currently underway at the site.

For drilling stratigraphic wells, technologies with no negative impact on nature are used.
