Rosneft Steps Up Efforts to Rationally Use Water Resources
Every year on March 22, the World Day of Water is celebrated – the most valuable natural resource, without which life on Earth is impossible. The treatment facilities made it possible to significantly improve the quality of wastewater treatment, as well as to increase the use of treated water in technological processes, which by 2.5 times reduces the volume of its intake from water bodies.
The companies of the Group are actively taking measures to reduce discharges into water bodies, within the framework of the federal project “Rehabilitation of the Volga River, the reconstruction of treatment facilities at the Kuibyshev refinery and the Syzran refinery is being carried out. Thanks to the implemented environmental projects, Rosneft enterprises have increased the level of recycled water use in the production process, having reduced the intake from the Volga River by 6% in 3 years, or by almost 25 million m3. In addition, the reconstruction of treatment facilities at the Novokuibyshevsk refinery, the Tuapse refinery and the Komsomolsk refinery is underway, as well as the construction of new treatment facilities at the Achinsk refinery.
The company assesses the territories in which it operates for the level of water resources (the analysis tools of the Aqueduct project are used). The main regions of Rosneft’s presence are located in areas not experiencing water shortages, with the exception of a number of facilities located outside of Russia. Regardless of the availability of water in the region, during the implementation of projects, the Company carries out a set of measures aimed at the rational use of water resources.
