  • Rospan International: Sets Fracturing Record – Proppant Use Cut in Half

Rospan International, a subsidiary of Rosneft, conducted a record hydrofracturing operation (fracturing) – with the use of pulsating injection – 550 tons of proppant, equivalent to 1000 tons by traditional technology, were supplied for 10.5 hours. The operation was carried out at the East Urengoy license area as part of a large-volume fracturing program for high-conductivity cracking technology.

For the operation, additional pumps and equipment were used, a special formulation of the frac fluid was developed, preserving its properties during the long injection. The use of this technology makes it possible to increase the length of the created fracture by 8-10% and increase the productivity of the well by 15-18%.

The previous record of a larger volume fracturing for a gas condensate field was installed in Rospan in May 2018, when 495 tons of proppant was injected into the well, which is equivalent to 900 tons by traditional technology.

As part of the Rospan project, the active phase of the construction of key production facilities of the infrastructure continues. The assembly of the complex gas and condensate preparation of the East Urengoy licensed area has completed the installation of the main process equipment, including fired heating furnaces, work on the installation of process pipelines and shut-off and control valves, and the installation of thermal insulation on the tanks. At the booster compressor station, the process equipment is being bundled. At the railway terminal at Korotchaevo station, ball tanks are being assembled, technological trestles are being installed.

When reaching the designed capacity, annual gas production will be more than 19 billion cubic meters, gas condensate and oil production – about 5 million tons per year. “Rospan” in the coming years will provide the Company with the main increase in gas production.
