  • Russian Oil and Gas Pioneer Builds More Secure Platform for Future Growth

As part of its efforts to harness the rich oil and gas reserves of Western Russia, Volga Gas deployed Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Azure cloud services to build a single information space with flexible analytics. Thanks to this more secure Microsoft-powered platform, Volga Gas looks forward to continued organizational growth.

    Creating a world-class ERP

Volga Gas is an emerging global energy player with more than 200 employees in seven locations and 100 percent interest in four licenses to explore for and produce oil, gas, and condensate in Volgograd and Saratov. Its primary challenge? Integrating global best practices into all of its business processes, which would enable the company to build a more secure plan for the future.

Olga Gavva, Head of Volga Gas’s ERP Implementation Project, says these twin strategic aims are being met by key features in Microsoft Dynamics 365, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that complements Volga Gas’s new cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 ways of working. “After a year of seeing the positive impact of Office 365 on the company, our CEO, Andrey Zozulya, and our IT Director decided that world-class ERP functionality was our logical next step.“

“We looked at a number of competitors, including the local Russian market leader, but decided Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations offered us most over the longer-term, as we wanted to deploy best practices in our business quickly and effectively. The product’s planned evolution and its compatibility with other cloud services eventually proved to be the decisive factor in us choosing Microsoft.

    Achieving better process digitization

Since then, Gavva has worked closely with local Microsoft implementation partner Dynamics Services to deliver a powerful combination of Microsoft technologies to her company. “Many useful technologies were developed, not only by our internal development team, but also by Dynamics Services, such as a new ‘depersonalization plug-in’ for our use,” says Gavva. Azure features have also been factored in, including sensor data storage for planned Internet of Things project work.

“Volga Gas had already started to transform digitally via the move to Office 365, especially around improved security and analytics, but Microsoft Dynamics 365 has taken us further by delivering the digitization of all our services and technological processes,” she states. Specifically, Gavva points to improvements like better support for project managers on key tasks such as budgeting and activity analysis, with the next step being an upgrade to core HR processes like recruitment and assessment.

“We are already planning to use more Microsoft ERP modules to help us with procurement and sourcing, vendor collaboration, payroll, cash and bank management, and production control. We expect that using Microsoft technologies will increase the effectiveness of our company, and we expect access to Microsoft Teams, mobile, and machine learning will open new horizons for us,” she concludes.
