“Salym Petroleum Development” is The Most Environmentally Friendly Enterprise in Ugra
SPD’s environmental projects were highly praised by the experts of the competition “The Best Oil and Gas Producing Enterprise of Ugra in the Sphere of Relations Related to Environmental Protection.” The competition took place within the framework of the XX International Environmental Action “Save and Preserve”. The award was presented to SPD Director of Health, Safety, Public Safety and Environment Mikhail Kovalev by Deputy Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug – Yugra Olga Litova.
Every year, the competition jury evaluates the work of all oil producing companies in the district according to 10 criteria, reflecting the enterprises’ implementation of environmental and resource-saving technologies that reduce the negative impact on the environment. Based on the totality of all evaluation criteria, the competition experts recognized SPD as the winner among enterprises with production of more than 5 million tons of oil per year.
Environmental protection and responsible attitude towards nature are one of the company’s key principles. When implementing projects in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbons, SPD evaluates them from the point of view of ecology and energy efficiency. The company is introducing tools that allow it to comprehensively reduce its impact on the environment.
SPD has one of the highest rates of beneficial use of associated petroleum gas in the industry – 98%. At the Salym group of fields there is a gas turbine unit that generates electricity from the produced associated gas, providing 40% of the total demand of the field.
SPD implements highly efficient projects in the energy sector. A digital tool has been introduced that analyzes online the operation of existing oil field energy facilities, allowing flexible management of energy consumption and control of atmospheric air parameters. The program to improve the energy efficiency of key facilities at the Salym fields was highly praised by experts at the Green Eurasia climate competition.
Together with Ugra State University and the Government of Ugra, the company is implementing a project to create a monitoring station for greenhouse gas flows at the Salym group of fields. The project will allow us to study the absorption capacity of natural ecosystems in Western Siberia and develop measures to further reduce the impact of production on the environment.
Olga Litova, Deputy Governor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra:
“For 20 years, the company has remained a reliable partner of the region. While developing the oil field and introducing new technologies, SPD always prioritizes environmental issues. Together we are implementing critical initiatives in the field of science that help develop environmental projects that are unique to the industry.”
Mikhail Kovalev, Director of Health, Safety, Public Safety and Environment at SPD:
“SPD specialists participate in the development and implementation of research projects in the field of ensuring environmental safety, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and developing new technologies for oil and gas production. Additionally, we are implementing a comprehensive production modernization program – we are building new facilities and introducing innovative technologies in production management. This allows the enterprise to carry out systematic work to further reduce its impact on the environment and preserve the fragile nature of Ugra.”
