  • Samaraneftegaz Increases Drilling Volumes Through New Technologies

Samaraneftegaz, part of the oil production complex of Rosneft, achieved 216 thousand meters of development drilling in 2024, which is 4% higher than the figure for 2023.

The increase in drilling footage was achieved through a range of measures aimed at increasing productivity in well drilling using new technologies. The actual commercial drilling rate exceeded the standard by almost 13%.

Time savings were achieved by applying technology that eliminated a number of drilling operations. A significant effect was obtained by including logging tools in the bottom-hole assembly, allowing geophysical surveys to be carried out simultaneously with wellbore preparation.

The introduction of modern drilling fluids has made it possible, depending on the field, to reduce well drilling time by seven days. These fluids have highly effective inhibiting properties, which improve borehole wall stability and prevent sticking of the drill string.

While drilling three wells, Samaraneftegaz tested a new Russian automated drilling control system that ensures precise execution of set parameters. The system’s characteristics allow drilling speed to be increased by 10%, thereby reducing well construction time. Vibration and wear of the drill string components are also reduced.

Rosneft places a high priority on innovation and defines technological leadership as a key factor for competitiveness in the oil market. The company is systematically implementing new technological solutions across the entire production chain.
