Samotlorneftegaz Celebrates The 55th Anniversary Of The Start Of Industrial Development Of The Samotlor Field
Samotlorneftegaz (part of the oil and gas production complex of Rosneft) celebrates 55 years since the production of the first industrial oil from the Samotlor field – one of the largest in the world.
In April 1969, industrial development of the oil giant began – just four years after its discovery. The first exploration well R-1 produced a flow of anhydrous oil with a flow rate of 300 m3 per day. Geologists have estimated the reserves of the discovered unique field at almost 3.5 billion tons of oil. Its development has become significant for the economic development of the country. In 1980, the field reached its peak annual production of 158.9 million tons. In 1981, the first billion tons of oil were produced. The discovery and development of the Samotlor field became a key moment in the industrial development of the Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug and had a positive impact on its socio-economic development.
New opportunities for Samotlor opened up after the entry of Samotlorneftegaz, which is developing the field, into the structure of Rosneft. Investment incentives provided by the state made it possible to give new impetus to the development of the field. To stabilize hydrocarbon production, the company initiated the implementation of an expanded development program for Samotlor and technological renewal of production facilities. Samotlorneftegaz received support from the Rosneft scientific complex. As a result of joint work, the enterprise’s innovation portfolio has significantly expanded. All this gave a tangible multiplier effect both for the region and for the economy of the entire country.
Currently, the accumulated production of Samotlorneftegaz exceeds 2.9 billion tons of oil. The company consistently maintains a level of rational use of associated petroleum gas of more than 98%, which is one of the highest indicators in the industry. Samotlorneftegaz’s production is ensured by more than 15 thousand wells, most of which are horizontal, with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing operations.
The enterprise’s geologists are conducting further study of the deposit’s deposits. 3D seismic exploration was carried out on more than 85% of the Samotlor area. Currently, Samotlorneftegaz is involving in the development of previously inaccessible marginal zones of the northeastern part of the field. To increase the efficiency of oil production, Rosneft is introducing an innovative method of integrated mathematical modeling at Samotlor. Over the five years of project implementation, digital analogues of ten production sites were created, which made it possible to increase daily production by 0.5%.
Over five years, Samotlorneftegaz has implemented 187 projects to improve production efficiency. The economic effect of these events exceeded 11 billion rubles.
At Samotlor, priority is given to reducing the environmental impact of production. To date, the enterprise has restored the biological productivity of soils on 90% of the land area disturbed during the Soviet period of development of the Samotlor field.
Samotlorneftegaz is a backbone enterprise for the city of Nizhnevartovsk and the Nizhnevartovsk region, providing jobs for over 15 thousand people, including contractors. In two educational institutions of Nizhnevartovsk, with the support of Samotlorneftegaz, there are four “Rosneft-classes” – the first stage of the corporate training system “School-university-enterprise”.
Within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement between Rosneft and the government of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra, Samotlorneftegaz is carrying out comprehensive work to improve the quality of life of the region’s population. With the support of the enterprise, a number of large sports facilities, a school for 1,725 children, two kindergartens, a park of Heroes of Samotlor have been erected, and a radical reconstruction of the Ob River embankment, the calling card of Nizhnevartovsk and a favorite vacation spot for citizens, is underway.
Rosneft pays great attention to preserving and strengthening the historical memory of the Samotlor field and its pioneering oil workers. With the Company’s support, large-scale work was carried out in the city to update the “First Exploration Well R-1 of the Samotlor Field” memorial, the “Conquerors of Samotlor” monument, a Heroes of Samotlor park was created, and a corporate museum was opened.
