Samotlorneftegaz Increased the Level of Rational Use of Associated Petroleum Gas to 99%
Samotlorneftegaz, which produces an asset of NK Rosneft, in 2022 brought the level of useful use of associated petroleum gas to a historical maximum of 99%. This is one of the best indicators in the industry.
Increasing the efficiency of production assets is one of the key elements of the Rosneft 2030: Reliable Energy and Global Energy Transition strategy. The Company systematically implements targeted programs aimed at the rational use of energy resources, paying special attention to the involvement of associated petroleum gas in the production of heat and electricity, as well as in gas chemistry.
Since 2009, Samotlorneftegaz has been exceeding the industry target for 95% APG utilization. For 13 years, the company has consistently maintained a level of 98%. The high figure was achieved by Samotlorneftegaz due to the developed gas infrastructure. The field has a network of 23 vacuum compressor stations, five additional separation units, and three line dryer separators. The length of gas transmission networks is 530 km.
The total amount of APG directed for rational use over this period amounted to more than 60 bcm. Samotlorneftegaz uses it in several ways. The main part is transported for further processing to two gas processing plants in the region, where raw materials valuable for the petrochemical industry are extracted from it – a wide fraction of light hydrocarbons. The other component, dry stripped gas, is used by Nizhnevartovskaya GRES, the most important electricity producer in the Urals Federal District.
In addition, APG is sent to regional consumers as fuel for gas boilers, and is also used for the technological needs of the field.
