Igor Sechin Urged to Make the Oil and Gas Sector a Priority
Improving technologies in traditional oil production reduces emissions more than immature alternative technologies, the oil and gas sector at the current stage of the green transition should become a priority for development, said the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“Today, improving technologies in traditional production has a greater effect in terms of real emission reduction than investing in immature alternative technologies. Thus, at the current stage of the green transition, the oil and gas sector itself should become a priority,” Sechin said.
He added that carbon neutrality is not achievable on a global scale given the current pool of green technologies. According to Sechin, many of the necessary technologies are still at the stage of experimental development.
