Serbia to grant national project status to South Stream

The Serbian government plans to grant a national project status to the construction of the Serbian section of the South Stream gas pipeline before the end of January.

The government has already written up a draft law associated with giving the South Stream project the status of a national project,” Serbia’s Finance and Economics Minister, Mladjan Dinkic, said in a statement. According to him, the decision will be taken this month. The Minister stressed that the South Stream is strategically important to Serbia.

Giving South Stream a national project status will give a number of benefits to the future construction. In particular, this will pave the way for the expropriation of land for the pipeline.
