Sercel Enhances Cableless Land Acquisition Portfolio
Sercel has introduced new enhancements to its cable-free land acquisition portfolio with the joint launch of the new generation of UNITE, its industry-leading cable-free acquisition system, and the SG-5, a new geophone sensor. These enhancements are designed to offer seismic acquisition crews greater operational flexibility to acquire higher-quality data in all survey conditions.
The new generation of Sercel’s popular UNITE cableless system has two new features to ensure high performance and greater flexibility for deployment in the most challenging environments. Firstly, its new larger-capacity internal battery gives the system two weeks of operating autonomy. This means it can now be more easily buried when necessary to reduce the risk of theft or loss. Secondly, new data management software has also been added, increasing the system’s wireless data harvesting rate by 50% and thereby improving operational efficiency and continuous follow-up of operations. In addition, to ensure maximum operational flexibility for any type of geophysical survey, the new-generation UNITE, as with earlier versions, is available as a 1-C analog (RAU eX) unit, a 3-C analog (RAU eX-3) unit and a 3-C digital (RAU eX-D) unit.
The new SG-5 sensor offers the advantage of a low natural frequency response at 5hz, well below the 10hz industry standard. This enhanced geophysical response over existing sensors makes it the perfect sensor for microseismic applications. It also has very high sensitivity to ground velocity (80 V/m/s) which means that it can be deployed as a single sensor, thereby improving logistics and deployment time.
When deployed together, the new, more compact UNITE cable-free system and the new SG-5 have a combined weight of less than two kilograms. This means that in addition to offering enhanced capabilities such as higher sensitivity to ground velocity, better low-frequency response and greater operating autonomy, the new combination is also one of the lightest available on the land seismic acquisition market today.
Pascal Rouiller, CEO, Sercel, said: “More than 25 customers are already using our UNITE cable-free system. We are convinced that by offering these new enhancements, with the latest generation of UNITE and our new SG-5 geophone, we will further strengthen our position in the land acquisition market. Our launch of this new combination underlines our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs by offering the best equipment solution for every seismic application.”
