Shell Starts Development of Timi Field in Malaysia
Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB, a subsidiary of Shell plc) has started natural gas production at the Timi field in Malaysia.
This was reported by the press service of Shell.
Timi field
- low-sulfur (sweet) gas field;
- opened in 2018;
- located approximately 252 km northwest of Bintulu in the Sarvak region, where the complex is operated by Petronas – Petronas LNG;
- the Timi development will allow reaching a maximum production of up to 50 kboe/d;
- the project will bring gas to the F23 production hub via an 80 km gas pipeline, supporting future growth in central Luconia off the coast of Sarawak;
- work is carried out in accordance with the production sharing agreement SK318 (PSA);
- The final investment decision was made in August 2021.
- project partners:
– SSB – operator, with a 75% stake,
– Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – 15%,
– Brunei Energy Exploration – 10%; - field development is carried out using the Timi wellhead platform:
– built by Brooke Dockyard & Engineering Works,
– Shell’s 1st offshore platform in Malaysia powered by renewable energy facilities;
– 60% lighter than conventional drilling platforms.
Recall that in 2022, Shell Malaysia accepted the FID for the largest gas project in the same region of Sarawak – Rosmari-Marjoram.
The development of the Rosemary-Majoran deepwater fields will also be carried out using renewable energy and is one of the strategic projects to ensure a stable gas supply to Petronas LNG.
The offshore platform will receive electricity from a solar power plant (SPP) consisting of 240 solar panels, while the land-based power plant is connected to the Sarawak power grid, which is powered mainly by hydroelectric power plants (HPP).
According to the company, the project is designed to produce 800 Mcf/d of gas, with gas production expected to start in 2026.
