  • Sinopec Discovers Gas Field in China’s Sichuan

Sinopec discovers a new field in Bazhong County with over 30 billion cubic meters of shale gas reserves

Chinese state-owned oil and gas company Sinopec has discovered a new field in Sichuan province. The Bazhong field is located in the northeastern part of the province, and is considered the third field discovered by Sinopec in this region of China in terms of volumes – its reserves are estimated at 30.55 billion cubic meters of gas.

The catch is that the occurrence of resources is at great depths, which creates problems for its development. Experts define the Bazhong field as dense sandstone with a depth of up to 5225 meters. The gas in the field belongs to the shale gas category.

However, Sinopec has already developed several schemes for the development of the deposit. The company evaluates engineering solutions for production and continues exploration.

Sinopec ranks second in China in terms of oil and gas production. Recently, it has focused on the development of its foreign oil refining assets, which will increase the company’s profits, moving away from the restrictive quotas of the Chinese government in the domestic market.
