  • Small Danish Company Delivers Safety to the Whole World’s Offshore Industry

Although the company Safe Transfer A/S goes a little under the radar, it has not prevented them from creating an international name. Today, they are suppliers of safety baskets for some of the largest projects in the offshore industry and have products all over the world. “It is fantastic with global success, but our own ambitions continue to grow,” says a satisfied director of Safe Transfer A/S.

Down at the harbor in Esbjerg is a company that deals with security every day. Their specialists have developed a world-renowned product that they are some of the only ones in the world that produces. The product is safety baskets – or Safe Transfer Baskets, which transport people between different offshore installations or drilling platforms.

Their safety baskets are both Danish developed and produced and now has over 35 years on the market. It all started back in 1985, when the Danish shipping company ESVAGT A/S developed the baskets. Since 2014, the Safe Transfer brand has been owned and operated by the company West-Marine A / S, which supplies equipment and services to the maritime industry and offshore industry.

“We can report after more than 35 years in the industry that our customers have not experienced a single accident associated with our safety baskets,” says

Carsten Larsen, CEO of West-Marine A/S and Safe Transfer A/S, and continues to say: “We at West-Marine A/S and Safe Transfer A/S have a tradition of safety. We are constantly trying to make the products better and safer for our customers. And of course, it’s nice to know that there have been no recorded accidents in the 36 years that Safe Transfer safety baskets have been delivered to the offshore industry.”

Largest safety provider in several continents
The Danish company not only provides safety for the many offshore projects in Denmark – after many years in the industry, they have expanded a larger customer base and now deliver worldwide.

The latest report, made by Safe Transfer A / S, shows that the company is among the largest suppliers in several continents, for example in both Central America and Southeast Asia, they have hit the spot.

“It is fantastic that we can be the largest suppliers in those parts of the world. It tells us that safety is a common language we all speak, and whether you come from Denmark or Malaysia, you want safety.” says Carsten Larsen.

    Quality stamp of safety
It is not many years ago that Safe Transfer received the safety approval from NORSOK on their latest developed “sit-down” version, an approval given to products used in the oil and gas industry. And the approval is a huge pat on the back for Safe Transfer’s product, says Carsten Larsen.

“The approval came as a huge redemption, and it has given us a stamp of quality. We are the only ones on the market for safety baskets that have received the Norwegian NORSOK safety approval, and this tells us that our product meets the requirements of the outside world for safety.”

In addition to the Norwegian NORSOK approval, all Safe Transfer safety baskets have both DNV and ABS approvals, in addition to Safe Transfer A/S maintaining a Bureau Veritas certification on their ISO 9001 system. Everything falls back on the forces and security that are put into every single product.

The sustainability is in the durability
When it comes to products that are being developed for the offshore industry, a lot of thought is given to sustainability and climate-friendly materials for the future. And Safe Transfer A/S has a durable product that differs from the competition in the industry in several areas.

“Our safety curve lasts popularly and as the only ones forever, but of course they need to be security checked every few years. We regularly receive safety baskets for service that has been in use by our customers for more than 25 years, and it is a pleasure to see the good condition they are in even after many years of use in a harsh offshore environment. For us, sustainability is also a long product life, which makes replacements superfluous, and in that connection, it does not matter that our customers achieve a much better TCO (Total Cost of Ownership),” says Carsten Larsen.

Safe Transfer A/S also offers rental options to customers so that they can return the safety baskets after a successful project where the need for safety baskets is satisfied. And the returned safety baskets will be recycled for new customers.

Ambitions for the safety of the future
Safe Transfer A/S is pleased with the global imprint they have left on safety in the offshore industry, where primarily the oil industry has benefited from their safety curve. Although they contribute to many projects and in many countries, the ambition is for more people to have better safety. There are many markets that can use one of Safe Transfer’s safety baskets.

“Global success is fantastic, but our own ambitions continue to grow. There are always new markets and countries that may need more and better security and in the form of our baskets. And we are in the process of setting new ambitions for the future of Safe Transfer,” says Carsten Larsen.

    Facts behind the story:
Safe Transfer A/S manufactures three different types and sizes of safety baskets, which are available for both four and eight people. In addition, there is also a four-person version where people can sit down. All types of safety baskets have in common that they are made as non-collapsible types and in heavily dimensioned and stainless 316L steel.
