SPE Conference: Opened Virtual Doors for Everyone
The annual Virtual Caspian Technical Conference (STC) hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) opened its virtual doors yesterday. The event, which has been held for 8 years already, is supported by leaders and experts of the Caspian oil and gas industry. Thanks to the constant support of the sponsors of the event, this year, for the first time, it became possible to visit free of charge. This made the event more global and participants from all over the world were able to participate in it.
Within the framework of the theme “Adapting to new realities – maximizing efficiency and productivity” The SPE conference will include three panel sessions exploring the current market situation facing the exploration and production industry in Azerbaijan and the Caspian region as a whole.
At the opening ceremony, Yashar Latifov, SOCAR ‘s Vice President for Field Development, discussed the importance of safety, environmental responsibility, quality, capital and operational efficiency. He also recognized a preference for long-term and sustainable digital technologies, especially in the context of demographic and industry changes.
Gary Jones, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey praised SPE’s role in fostering knowledge sharing and creating opportunities for members of the oil and gas community to enhance their technical and professional knowledge.
Regis Agut, General Director of Total Energies Azerbaijan, emphasized how the theme of the conference “Adaptation to new realities” sums up the current global situation for the oil and gas industry as a whole. Adapting to a changing environment by developing new technologies through research and development and attracting more diverse talent to the industry is key to moving forward.
During the first day of the conference, the first panel session “Increasing Efficiency in Today’s Changing Environment” was moderated by Malcolm Forbes-Cable (VP of Energy at Wood Mackenzie). Interesting presentations were presented by renowned speakers Maria Yunda (Managing Director for Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Schlumberger); Famil Khalafov (SOCAR AQS) and Terje Dal (Vice President for Exploration in Russia and Azerbaijan, Equinor).
