  • State Corporation Turkmengeologiya Plans to Increase the Volumes of Geological Exploration

In response to the growing global demand for rare earth elements, the State Corporation Turkmengeologiya is planning to increase the volume of geological exploration work in this area, according to a statement made on Thursday by the Head of the Corporation, Gurbanguly Garlyev.

“In light of the increased global interest in rare earth elements, the Corporation has scheduled a significant increase in geological exploration efforts in this area,” he stated during his speech at the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments into the Economy of Turkmenistan (TEIF 2025) held in Kuala Lumpur.

Garlyev noted that the State Reserve Balance of the Republic of Turkmenistan includes more than 250 deposits and promising occurrences of various types of mineral raw materials with unconfirmed reserves. These include hard and brown coals, iron ores, ozokerite, ilmenite and rubidium ores, marble onyx, bentonites, native sulfur, as well as raw materials for the chemical and glass industries, table and rock salts, potassium and magnesium salts, sodium sulfate, technogenic barium, iodine, bromine, mineral pigments, cement raw materials, gypsum, facing materials, building stones, and raw materials for the production of expanded clay and mineral fibers.

According to the head of the corporation, Turkmengeologiya is continuing to modernize its technical fleet and is introducing new crawler drilling rigs that are compact and capable of inclined drilling at depths of up to 1,500 meters. A unique feature of the new rigs is their ability to retrieve core samples without the need for tripping operations (raising and lowering the drill string), which significantly improves work efficiency, Garlyev added.

The TEIF 2025 forum is taking place in Kuala Lumpur from April 23 to April 24. The event is being attended by representatives from over 42 countries. The forum is organized by Turkmengaz, Turkmennebit, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, in partnership with the company Turkmen Energy Forum.
