Study Core Samples, Visit The Arctic And Learn What Stratigraphy Is – Geology Days Start At The Rosneft Pavilion
Geology Days will be held in the Rosneft pavilion at VDNKh as part of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” from April 2 to 7. Visitors to the exhibition will be able not only to learn about geological exploration tools and techniques, but also to see unique footage from the Company’s scientific expeditions to the Far North. Rosneft employees, the country’s leading geologists, will give lectures to guests of the pavilion. The thematic week’s program also includes presentations, master classes on excavation and making casts, and quizzes with memorable prizes. Throughout the week, the pavilion displays a geological photo collection of Rosneft, created jointly with PJSC Geotech Seismic Prospecting.
The grand opening of the Geology Days will take place on April 2. On this day, Rosneft employees will talk about a unique scientific project of stratigraphic drilling in the seas of the Russian Arctic. Guests of the pavilion will learn how cores are extracted and what information about the continental shelf experts extract from rock samples. Throughout the week, documentaries about geological research will be broadcast in the pavilion’s cinema hall. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to become participants in expeditions to the northern seas, as well as learn how people discovered oil and how oil production began.
On April 5, as part of the Geology Week, MSU Day will be held. М.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University has been a key university partner of the Company since 2006. Among the main areas of cooperation are research activities, training and retraining of personnel. Leading university researchers will talk about modern geophysical research technologies, geological processes and underwater landscapes. MSU Day will end with the screening of the documentary film “Lovers in the Arctic” about Anna Trofimova, head of the scientific expedition team of the “Arctic Floating University”.
Whose names do Rosneft’s fields bear, how to calculate oil and gas reserves, and how the options for providing geological results have changed: from drawings on graph paper to 3D models and neural networks – employees of the Tyumen Petroleum Research Center of the Company will tell you.
On Geologist’s Day – April 7 – Rosneft geologists will give popular science lectures at the Company’s pavilion. Visitors will learn whether it is possible to understand geosteering from scratch and how to become a petroleum geologist. Among the speakers is also Sergei Girvich, head of large-scale scientific expeditions of Rosneft, which have been carried out in the Arctic seas on the research vessel Bavenit for 4 field seasons.
You can find out about the main events of the Geology Days in the Rosneft pavilion and the time of their holding on the Rosneft website and the Company’s official pages on social networks. The pavilion’s opening hours follow the exhibition schedule.
