  • Taimyr Region Receives New Confirmation of High Oil and Gas Potential

The Federal Agency for Subsoil Use of the Russian Federation (Rosnedra) and the Russian State Geological Holding (Rosgeologia) have reported significant results from the state geological exploration program conducted in the central part of the Yenisei-Khatanga Trough, located in the northern area of Krasnoyarsk Krai.

During the drilling of the Novoyakimovskaya-1 well, a commercial inflow of light oil was obtained. This discovery has allowed geologists to double the area classified as having oil and gas potential in the northern region.

Of particular importance is the fact that the newly identified promising zones are located between the already developing Payakhsky fields, the assets of the Vostok Oil project, and the East Taimyr cluster. Rosgeologia emphasized the strategic significance of these findings for the further development of hydrocarbon production in Taimyr. The eventual development of these reserves is expected to increase freight volumes along the Northern Sea Route.

As Neftegaz i Kapital recalls, the Novoyakimovskaya well, with a depth of 5,020 meters, is located north of the Arctic Circle. Drilling operations began in 2020. Over the past decade, the northern part of Krasnoyarsk Krai has become one of the most promising regions in the Russian Federation for new hydrocarbon discoveries. All major oil companies in the country have already obtained exploration licenses and launched operations in the area.
