Tajikistan Will Soon Have a Lot of Oil and Gas
The Bokhtar project, which the Chinese CNPC took over from the French TotalEnergies in Tajikistan, has entered the implementation stage.
The Chinese CNPC has begun implementing a project for the exploration and production of new hydrocarbon deposits in southwest Tajikistan. We are talking about the Bokhtar project, located in the Afghan-Tajik depression, Tajik media write.
The publications quote the words of the head of CNPC for Central Asia, Bien Deji, who claims that in the very near future the company hopes to report large oil and gas reserves in Bokhtar.
He noted that the transition of the project to the practical part required many years of preliminary work.
As part of the first part of the subsoil study, it is planned to carry out geological exploration on an area of 15.3 square meters. km. Chinese and Tajik specialists will be involved in the work.
The media also recall that in March, parliamentarians of Tajikistan ratified the transfer to CNPC of a share in the Bokhtar project, which previously belonged to the French TotalEnergies.
Let us recall that over the last decade there have been disputes around Bokhtara regarding the participation of international companies. As a result, the Canadian Tethys Petroleum left the project, which, by the way, at one time stated that in the depths of Bokhtara there were “truly super-giant” oil and gas reserves.
