  • TATNEFT Registered The Seventh Climate project in the Russian Register of Carbon Units

The company continues to hold a leading position in climate projects. Of the 20 climate projects in the national register, seven are in Tatneft’s portfolio.

The project is being implemented at DNS-4972s NGDU Aznakaevskneft, from where all associated petroleum gas is sent through a gas pipeline for processing to the Minibaevsky gas processing plant. Thus, the goal of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating APG flaring at the DNS-4972s flare unit.

The planned reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over 10 years of project implementation is 27.8 thousand tons of CO2-eq.

The climate project was prepared by specialists from the Center for Industrial and Environmental Safety of TsOB TATNEFT. The validation was carried out by the accredited body for the validation and verification of greenhouse gases, LLC MIP “NES Profexpert”.

Previously, Tatneft registered climate projects at the facilities of Elkhovneft (two projects), Yamashneft, Bavlyneft, Leninogorskneft and at the Minnibaevsky gas processing plant. Some of them are related to the expansion of the gas collection system. It should be noted that the level of APG utilization in the Company is one of the highest in Russia and amounted to 98.13% at the end of 2023. Tatneft’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The register of the carbon units market in Russia began to function on September 1, 2022. Its members can register climate projects and monetize their climate efforts by issuing carbon credits. One carbon unit is equivalent to one ton of carbon dioxide. The Company will be able to receive its first carbon units only after implementing the project and achieving an environmental effect, which must also be confirmed by a validation and verification body.
