Tengiz Has Not Yet Reached Full Oil Production Capacity
Oil production at the Tengiz field in Kazakhstan has still not reached full capacity after being suspended in January due to power supply issues, the press service of Tengizchevroil (TCO) told Interfax-Kazakhstan.
“TCO is gradually increasing production volumes as conditions allow,” the company said in response to a question about whether production has reached full capacity.
The company did not disclose current daily production figures.
At the end of February, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov told journalists that production at Tengizhad “almost reached full capacity.”
Oil production at the Tengiz field began to resume on January 31. Prior to that, on January 18, a transformer fire occurred at the field. The fire was promptly extinguished, and no one was injured.
On January 19, Tengizchevroil temporarily suspended oil production at the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields due to problems with power distribution systems.
On January 26, the operator resumed production at the Korolevskoye field. On January 28, according to Akkenzhenov, production at Korolevskoye reached full capacity.
Oil reserves at Tengiz amount to 3.1 billion tonnes. The participants of Tengizchevroil LLP are Chevron Corp. (50%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Ventures Inc. (25%), Kazakhstan through KazMunayGas (20%), and LUKOIL (5%).
