  • The Head of Congo Discussed with Lukoil the Company’s Participation in the Country’s Oil Projects

President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso said in an interview with RIA Novosti that during his visit to Moscow he discussed with Lukoil its participation in oil projects in the Congo as an operator; he sees good prospects for this.

Currently, Lukoil operates in the Republic of Congo as a participant in the Marine XII oil and gas project. The Russian company acquired 25% in this project from the British company New Age M12 Holdings Limited in 2019. The project also involves the Italian Eni (project operator, 65%) and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Congo (10%).

“Lukoil would also like to have licenses for oil production, under which the company could act as an operator. We discussed this issue this morning and there are good prospects,” the Congolese leader said.

He added that he expects that after negotiations the Russian company will receive permits and will be able to operate oil and gas production in the Congo.

In March 2023, Lukoil reported that it was discussing with Congo entering new projects in this country as an operator. Then the company reminded that Lukoil was working in the Congo on the Marine XII project, which was operated by the Italian company Eni. According to him, this project is very important for the Russian company.
