The Ministry of Natural Resources Stated That Gas Reserves in The Russian Federation Have Remained at The Same Level For More Than 20 Years Due to Geological Exploration
At the current level of production, its provision with gas reserves is more than 100 years, the department assured.
Gas reserves in Russia have been kept at the same level for more than 20 years due to restoration work. The supply of gas reserves at the current production level is more than 100 years, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources told TASS.
The ministry noted that in 2000, gas reserves in Russia amounted to 63.8 trillion cubic meters. m, and in 2022 – 64.8 trillion cubic meters. m.
“This suggests that over a period of more than twenty years, gas reserves have remained at the same level. The supply of gas reserves to production is more than 100 years at the current production level,” the Ministry of Natural Resources emphasized.
The ministry added that the strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2035 sets an increase in gas reserves of 50%, and this figure is being met. “Russia’s gas reserves are not decreasing. Every year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ensures full gas reserves, almost doubling the gas supply – up to 1.1 trillion cubic meters with a production of 673 billion cubic meters,” the ministry noted.
At the same time, in 2016, the Ministry of Natural Resources introduced a new classification of oil and gas reserves and resources. Thus, according to the updated requirements, gas reserves are calculated taking into account the project document for field development and the gas recovery factor.
“Until 2016, the balance sheet included recoverable gas reserves equal to geological ones, that is, the gas recovery factor was assumed to be 1. In reality, it averages 0.8. Thus, over the past few years, updated recoverable gas reserves have been added to the state balance sheet,” – explained the ministry.
Earlier, the Vedomosti newspaper, citing a report by the Ministry of Natural Resources, reported that proven gas reserves in Russia in 2022 decreased by 1.4% compared to 2021 and by 11.3% compared to 2013.
