  • The Northern Lights Drilling Platform Will Arrive at the Port of Kholmsk (Sakhalin) on July 20 after Repairs

    Repairs were carried out in China

    The semi-submersible floating drilling platform (SSDR) “Northern Lights” will arrive as part of a caravan on July 20, 2024 at the roadstead of the seaport of Kholmsk (Sakhalin region) after scheduled repairs in the Chinese port of Zhoushan, reports the press service of Rosmorrechflot.

    Next, the towing caravan will follow to Zyryanskaya Bay to prepare for entering the eastern coast of Sakhalin Island for the construction of a well at the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field.

    During the repair of the drilling rig, a dock inspection of the underwater part of the hull was carried out, the wind protection of the drilling complex and the geometry of the anchors and windlasses of the anchor winches were restored, the removable elements of the rigging of the anchor device and pipelines of the life support systems were replaced, an internal examination and maintenance of the rudder propellers were carried out.

    The Northern Lights platform was built at the Vyborg Shipyard (VSZ, part of USC) and launched in 2011. It is a catamaran-type self-propelled floating drilling rig with two pontoons and six stabilizing columns supporting the top structure. Capable of conducting exploration and production drilling of gas and oil wells to a depth of up to 7.5 thousand meters at sea depths in the range of 70-500 m in the presence of broken ice up to 70 cm thick.

    Main technical characteristics: length of the upper structure – 85 m, width – 73 m, height to the top of the tower – 128 m, height to the upper deck – 45.15 m, pontoon length – 119 m, width – 17 m, height – 10 m, the power of the main power plant is 32 MW.
